How to Use Loose Fill Properly
- Base layer: add an even layer to the bottom of a strong, correctly sized carton.
- Wrap first: individually cushion fragile items with bubble wrap before placing them in the box.
- Fill every gap: surround the item and keep it separated from other contents and carton walls.
- Test movement: slightly overfill, close the flaps and add more if anything shifts during a gentle check.
Good applications
Light and Irregular Items
Loose fill flows into gaps around ornaments, gifts, product samples and other awkward shapes. It works best when the item is already protected and the carton is not excessively oversized.
Know its role
Not a Substitute for All Cushioning
Heavy objects can migrate through loose fill, while delicate surfaces still need direct wrapping. Match the cushioning system to the item’s weight, fragility and value.

Common questions
Loose Fill FAQs
What is loose fill packaging used for?
Loose fill occupies empty space around packed items so they are less able to shift, collide or reach the carton wall. It flows around irregular shapes and is best used with appropriate wrapping around fragile objects.
What size is the LF-Mini pack?
LF-Mini contains 40g of expanded-polystyrene loose fill in an approximately 37 × 23 × 15cm pack. It costs $3 and suits small parcels or topping up gaps in a few cartons.
Can loose fill replace bubble wrap?
Loose fill is mainly a void-filling material. Wrap fragile items individually with bubble wrap or another suitable cushioning first, then add loose fill around them to limit movement.
How do I know if I used enough loose fill?
Create an even cushioning layer, place the wrapped item away from the carton walls, fill every gap and slightly overfill before closing. If the contents shift when the closed box is gently tested, add more.
Can foam loose fill be reused?
Clean, dry and undamaged pieces can be retained and reused for future packing. Keep the material contained so lightweight pieces do not escape into the environment, and follow local disposal guidance when it is no longer usable.
What delivery and collection options are available?
Choose free self collection, $30 delivery within 3 working days, or $40 same-day delivery for orders placed before 12pm. Current options appear on the order form.
